UC Berkeley Law Advocacy Clinic Report Released: Homeless Exclusion Districts

Excited to see this latest study out of Professor Jeff Selbin’s shop at the UC Berkeley Law Advocacy Clinic that I worked on in SF. The collective power of BIDs shouldn’t be underestimated in policy advocacy, and definitely not in the enforcement of these laws. Just incredible the growth of these things and their rights to revenue, privatization of formerly public space, and anti-democratic governance handed over by cities. The report does better at highlighting the role and legal quandaries of policy advocacy than their role in enforcement, but hoping to support that claim with new research soon.
